On June 9, 2021, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued new guidelines for its Officers in determining whether an application should be expedited. These new guidelines expanded the criteria for requesting expedited service and clarified expedited services regarding removal proceedings.
The new expanded criteria reinstated the ability for nonprofits to request expedited service. To qualify for expedited service, the immigration benefits being expedited must further United States’ cultural or social interests.
Additionally, the new guidelines clarified that in removal proceedings, the expedited service should be coordinated between USCIS and the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE).
