Some permanent residents may now receive their Alien Documentation, Identification and Telecommunication (ADIT) stamp by mail, so that they can avoid scheduling an in-person appointment at a local United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) field office.
The ADIT stamp, also known as the I-551 stamp, is temporary proof of lawful permanent resident status on an individual’s passport or I-94 that is valid for no longer than 12 months (unless otherwise noted by USCIS). A permanent resident would need the ADIT stamp if:
- Their green card was lost, stolen, or damaged; or
- The permanent resident filed a Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card (Green Card), or Form N-400, Application for Naturalization that is still pending a decision and their extension notice has expired.
To request for an ADIT stamp, the permanent resident must call the USCIS Contact Center at 800-375-5283 to speak with an immigration officer. The permanent resident would have to confirm their identity, mailing address, and whether this address can receive UPS or FedEx express mail. The immigration officer would then submit a request to a local USCIS field office to issue a form I-94 with an ADIT stamp, DHS seal and photo of the permanent resident for mail delivery to the individual’s address.
Permanent residents who are unable to verify their identity with the immigration officer over the phone, do not have usable photos in the USCIS’ system, or are in urgent need for an ADIT stamp will need to attend an in-person appointment at a USCIS field office.
If you have any questions regarding this new mail delivery process for the ADIT stamp, or any other immigration related matter, please do not hesitate to contact KILO Immigration by filling out this contact form.
