On January 30, 2023, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) began issuing newly designed permanent resident cards (also known as green cards) and Employment Authorization Documents (EADs).
The new green cards and EADs now have more detailed artwork, textured surfaces, improved ink print, and holographic images on the front and back of the card. These design changes were made to improve the security of the cards against tampering, counterfeiting and fraud.
Some green cards and EADs issued after January 30, 2023 will still have the old design until the existing cardstock supply runs out. Green cards and EADs issued before this new design’s release will remain valid until the stated expiration date on the card. Older green cards that do not have an expiration date remain valid, however, USCIS recommends individuals with these cards to apply for a replacement to update their card with the new design to prevent fraud or tampering.
