On October 29, 2025, USCIS announced that after October 30, 2025, work authorization will no longer be automatically extended just by filing the renewal application. Applicants must file early to avoid gaps in work authorization, as DHS is increasing vetting to strengthen national security. It is recommended to file your I-765 to renew your work permit as early as possible, the earliest being 180 days prior to the work permit expiring.
